Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced Under Butler to join a private weekend residence in beautiful West Oxfordshire.

This prestigious position offers the opportunity to work for a family with three school-aged children and manage the smooth operation of their luxurious 13-bedroom main house, along with an additional 5-bedroom guest house.

The role requires dedication, attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring the family’s comfort and enjoyment during their weekends.

The successful candidate will work with a wider team of household staff including a Butler, Housekeepers, and a Private Chef.

Job duties

Responsibilities of the Under Butler in West Oxfordshire include:

• Provide impeccable, professional, and discreet service to the family and their guests
• Assist with setting up and serving meals, beverages, and snacks during weekend gatherings
• Ensure the dining area, tableware, and linens are impeccably presented
• Perform light cleaning and tidying duties, ensuring the household is always in impeccable condition
• Greet and welcome guests on arrival, assisting with their belongings and ensuring a comfortable stay
• Address guest requests promptly and professionally
• Assist with wine service, ensuring appropriate decanting, serving, and knowledge of wine etiquette
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, as needed
• Work closely with other household staff to ensure a cohesive and efficient team
• Assist with various ad-hoc tasks as required, such as pet care, transportation arrangements, or event setup

Candidates must be/have:

• Previous experience in a similar role within a private household or luxury hospitality environment
• A legal right to work in the UK
• A full driving licence
• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
• Proficient knowledge of etiquette, service protocols, and standards
• Basic culinary skills and knowledge of food and beverage service
• Attention to detail and a strong work ethic
• Excellent communication and organisation skills
• Ability to always maintain discretion and confidentiality

Accommodation

Shared accommodation can be provided, if required.

Hours

Wednesday – Monday (with some flexibility required). Hours to be discussed at interview stages.

Location

West Oxfordshire.

Salary

Up to £40,000  + shared accommodation.
