Job Description

A dedicated and experienced Waking Night Carer is required to support an elderly lady principal living with dementia in Bearsted, Kent (near Maidstone and Ashford). The condition is currently manageable with no challenging behaviour. The principal’s family resides in the neighbouring property and provides full, active support, taking over care duties promptly at 6:00 AM each morning.

This role requires the carer to remain awake, alert, and responsive throughout the night to ensure the principal's safety, comfort, and well-being. Candidates already based in or local to the Kent area are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Night Care: Remain awake and vigilant from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM to monitor the principal.

  • Dementia Support: Provide reassurance, reorientation, and gentle assistance if the principal wakes during the night which is currently often.

  • Personal Care: Assist with any nighttime mobility or bathroom visits to ensure safety and prevent falls.

  • Handover: Provide clear and concise morning handovers to the family members at 6:00 AM.

  • Emergency Response: Act as the first point of contact during the night, escalating any medical or welfare concerns to the family next door.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience in elderly care, specifically supporting individuals with dementia. Prior experience as a waking night carer is essential.

  • Location: Local candidates are strongly preferred.

  • Driving: A driver is preferred, though the property is exceptionally well-connected.

  • Demeanour: Calm, patient, and highly reliable. Must be comfortable working independently overnight while maintaining excellent, transparent communication with the family.

  • Certifications: Must hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS check and have the legal right to work in the UK.

Location & Amenities

  • The property is situated in Bearsted with excellent local infrastructure.

  • Very close proximity to a large private hospital, a large M&S, Next, and local coffee shops.

  • Highly accessible transport links, including an easy train route directly into London.

The Package

  • Salary: Competitive, reflecting the waking night responsibilities.

  • Accommodation: Live-in accommodation provided during the two-week working rotation.

  • Rotation: 2 weeks on duty, followed by 1 week off duty.
