My mother is 87 years young, sharp as a tack, fully independent in mind, and thoroughly enjoys life. She lives in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire — just north of London with excellent transport links to central London, Stansted, and Luton — and we are looking for the right person to live with her and support her in maintaining the active, social lifestyle she loves.
This is first and foremost a companionship role. Mum has no significant health issues and all her faculties are fully intact. What she needs is someone kind, warm, and reliable by her side — someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with an older person and can become a trusted part of her daily life.
Mum can no longer drive, so the most important practical element of this position is chauffeuring her in her automatic car. You will drive her to see friends, attend social engagements, run errands, attend appointments, and generally keep her connected to the community she loves here in Borehamwood.
Day-to-day, you will prepare simple meals and breakfasts — nothing complicated, timings are relaxed and flexible — keep the home tidy and running smoothly, and most importantly, be a genuine companion and friendly presence in her life.
Once a month, Mum visits us as a family for four days and nights, during which time you will have the home to yourself and that time is your own.
Accommodation
You will have your own private room with an en-suite bathroom, television, Sky, and Wi-Fi. This is your own comfortable, self-contained space within the home.
What We Are Looking For
- A qualified carer with relevant experience, though the role is light on personal care — this is about companionship and support
- A clean, full UK driving licence — this is essential
- A warm, sociable, and patient personality who genuinely enjoys the company of older people
- Someone who can cook simple, home-style meals
- Fluent English speaker — good communication is central to this role
- The legal right to live and work in the United Kingdom — please do not apply if you do not meet this requirement
